Who’re we talking about? You guessed it; The Beatles. With over 600 million record sales, they are among history's best-selling artists. But why are we mentioning them in an AI newsletter? Because Paul McCartney is using AI to create their swan song.

“Let it be,” said the Beatles back in 1970.
“Not quite yet,” said Paul McCartney in 2023.
McCartney, who along with Ringo Starr is one of the two remaining Beatles, just announced that he “finished up a demo record that John (Lennon) had been working on…using AI.”
The record is to be released later this year, showing “the good and the scary side” to AI, according to McCartney. Modern generative AI can create songs using the voices of deceased singers, such as songs of Lennon singing McCartney’s new material. It’s hardly a surprise then that artists and recording studios are toying with the same technology. As McCartney said, “we’ll just have to see where that leads.”

Valued at $21.87B right now, and projected to be worth over $304B in 2030, the global AI chip market is one hot ticket.
And in case you hadn’t heard, Nvidia, the San Clara AI chip company, is top dog. With its line of high-powered GPUs, Nvidia is propelling the AI storm, and reaping the benefits - having recently achieved a $1T valuation. But don’t think for a second that other tech companies are sleeping on the chance to cash in on AI.
In particular, AMD has made exceptional advances in their hardware, announcing earlier this week that their new M1300x supports 192GB of memory, a whopping 1.6x on Nvidia’s latest chip, the H100. AMD stock price check, anyone?

How much money had you made at four weeks old? After hospital bills, your new cot, buggy, and nappies, we’d say you were about $12k in the red. Not so for Mistral AI.
Based out of Paris, and co-founded by Google DeepMind and Meta alums, the 4-week-old startup just secured $113M in a seed funding round. Intending to compete against OpenAI to build, train and apply LLMs for generative AI, co-founders Mensch, Timothee Lacrois, and Guillaume Lample, aim to “make open source models using solely publically available data, to avoid legal issues that some others have faced over training data.”
Whereas OpenAI focuses largely on consumers (you and I), Mistral will singularly target enterprises, helping these large companies figure out what they need AI for, and how to achieve those goals.
