Compared to Europeans, Americans are more liklely to believe they control their own destiny. Given the EU’s latest move to ban AI in biometric identification systems, we’d say it’s the other way around. In fact, the US is so far behind the EU on AI regulation, senator Ted Cruz says Congress “doesn’t know what the hell they’re doing.” Let’s dive in.

Nurses, doctors, and surgeons all take the Hippocratic Oath. By taking the Hippocratic Oath, these professionals swear to act with humanity’s best interests at heart.
Google, it seems, is deciding to take it’s own hypocratic oath, one where they tell its employees one thing and the rest of the world another. As one of the biggest driving forces behind AI, Google has recently cautioned employees about how they interact with chatbots (INCLUDING its own Bard) while, at the same time, rolling out generative AI search features and that very same chatbot to the rest of us.
Google isn’t the only major corporation cautioning about the internal use of AI: Samsun, Amazon, Deutsche Bank, and Apple are all implementing guardrails to protect sensitive company information from AI chatbots. If THAT’S not HYPOCRICY, tell me what is.

Etsy, the global online marketplace originally designed exclusively for artisan, handmade wares (which generated over $2.5B in revenue last year), is now jammed with AI-generated junk.
From personalized phone cases to stickers, mugs, hoodies, paintings, bed throws and pillowcases, Etsy has been the go-to place to find UNIQUE and quirky products. Not anymore. Now, users are complaining that the real artists are being out-competed by AI, with one commenting, “Couldn’t find a single handpainted watercolor clip art of a highland cow” (dare we say niche opportunity?).
But where is this AI stuff coming from? From side-hustle acolytes, apparently; people who don’t fancy the 9-5 and who’d instead prefer to make an income from home, doing, well, whatever it takes (can you blame them?).

Kroger, the $33B US grocery store chain, has never, ever, EVER mentioned AI in its history. Not once, according to Bloomberg.
But on yesterday’s earnings call, Rodney McMullen, Krogen CEO, said “AI” or “artificial intelligence” precisely eight times. McMullen also discussed how the company managed to “invest in price for customers while maintaining margins,” thanks to AI and analyzing data and analytics. Apparently, AI is enabling Krogen to “better understand what truly matters to our customers, and deliver more targeted and effective experiences.”
